Longtime Macon educator, Dr. Lisa Garrett-Boyd, has announced her intention to seek re-election to the Post 8, At-Large seat on the Bibb County Board of Education. She is currently completing her second four-year term on the Board, where she has served on all standing committees and chaired the Instructional Services Committee for six years. In 2022, Dr. Garrett-Boyd was unanimously elected by her colleagues to serve as Vice President of the Board.

      A proud product of the Bibb County School District, Dr. Garrett-Boyd earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education from Augusta College, Mercer University, and Georgia College, and later earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia. Her 34-year career in the Bibb County School District includes service as a general and special education teacher, elementary school principal, and district administrator. Dr. Garrett-Boyd takes great pride in her lifelong commitment to public education and in giving back to the school system that helped prepare her for the future.

    When asked about her priorities, she explains: “Over the next four years, my top priorities for the Bibb County School District are addressing chronic school absenteeism, increasing the number of students reading on grade level, and expanding student pathways that lead to higher graduation rates and meaningful opportunities after graduation.”

     If re-elected to serve a third and final term, Dr. Garrett-Boyd envisions a district where more students are reading on grade level or above, graduation rates continue to rise, and fiscal responsibility remains a priority. She believes stakeholders should view the district as accountable to taxpayers while delivering a high-quality education for every student. Above all, she hopes to see a renewed sense of community pride in public education and continued commitment to the progress of Macon-Bibb schools.
